Equipping Students for God's Purpose

In the fall of 2004 Corey Porembski joined our community as a sophomore at the age of 16. He had a dream to be a Franciscan monk. Having been born with downs syndrome, by man's calculations it seemed a child's dream. He completed his studies at Mount Zion in June of 2007 and was awarded a Certificate of Attendance at the graduation ceremony with his peers. Since that time he has remained with us serving as a janitor with the responsibilities of restocking bathrooms, mopping, vacuuming and setting up and breaking down for lunch. Corey's great gift to us has been his joy, his love of fellowship and his willingness to serve. His love of life, his smile and enjoyment in sharing joyful interactions have made our community better and a better place. His willingness to complete his jobs with joy blessed us all.
On January 3rd Corey joined the Franciscan Brothers Minor in Fort Wayne Indiana. In entering into the Friary, Corey has taken vows of poverty, chastity and obedience. Our prayers and good wishes will be with him always.
